The Amy Zlochower-Smaldone Memorial Scholarship was established in 1989 through Pikes Peak State College Foundation by the parents, family, and friends of Amy to benefit selected fine arts students attending Pikes Peak State College.

Amy was an accomplished artist, even though she was only 34 when she succumbed to the devastation of cancer. She was a graduate of the High School of Art and Design in New York City, and for two years attended Queensboro Community College in New York City, where she majored in art. As an artist, Amy had already held a one person show in Colorado Springs and was becoming an artistic success.

Amy was a humanitarian. She had a superb sense of humor about life and was loved by all who knew her. In turn, she loved and cared for all living things. Through her kindness and compassion, she helped many people who were in distress, often at her own expense. She did this even during her own ordeal with cancer. Small and helpless animals were particular objects of Amy's caring. Many were taken in, cared for, and then placed in good homes. Amy's caring continues through her scholarship.

The Amy Zlochower-Smaldone Memorial Scholarship has been established to continue Amy's dream. She felt there were many things that she wanted to do and create that had not yet been done or created. The ambitions, dreams, talent, beauty, and caring that lived in Amy will now be fulfilled in the lives of many young artists who receive these gifts of funds.
